November Letter from the President

Hello friends!

We are so thankful for your support.  In fact, we have HUGE NEWS for you – but you have to read all the way through to find it!

As we wind up the year, we’re delighted to report that, thanks to you, our membership numbers are the highest in years.  Our Board of Directors, in partnership with our stellar team at Dillehay Management Group, work diligently throughout the year making sure we are mindful stewards of your membership investment dollars.  This year is no exception – we’re ending fiscal year 2016 in excellent shape. But we still have lots of work to do.

Please check out to see what committees you may be interested in serving on – we’d be honored to receive as little or as much time as you’re willing to give.  We’re continuing to work on Schedule 2 – please continue to build good relationships with your state legislators in advance of the upcoming session.

Looking towards next year, we’re so excited about our summer conference – we believe the #1 CME event in the US in 2017 will be hosted by GAPA, July 10 – 14. The luxurious Westin Resort & Spa on Hilton Head Island, SC, has once again placed in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards, this time taking its place as the #1 Island in the Continental U.S. and #8 World’s Best Islands.

Our Conference Planning Committee has done a phenomenal job as always.  In fact, they’ve raised the bar so high that we’ve decided to roll our spring offering into this BEST EVER summer event.  Our extensive educational surveys say our participants would like an opportunity to “dive deep” into multiple therapeutic areas, that’s why we’re providing all day tracks in Cardiology, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Orthopedics/Sports Medicine, Women’s Health & “It’ s All in the Blood.”  Our presenters are superstars in their respective fields, and we guarantee they’ll keep you engaged and entertained at the same time.

All work is no fun, so we have plenty of family friendly activities for relaxation and recreation including our 5k fun run, golf tournament, sandcastle contest, and more.  For the more adventuresome, there are other activities galore including bike trails, fishing, kayaking, sailing, surfing, parasailing, windsurfing and waterskiing.

Now, for the HUGE NEWS you’ve been waiting for!  To the Georgia PAs who support GAPA with their annual membership in 2017, we’re delighted to offer for the FIRST TIME EVER – free of charge – a selection of courses at the conference including an 8-hour Board Review as well as ACLS, Crash Course in Clinical Skills, Joint Injections, Slit Lamp, and Suturing & Wound Techniques – a $299 value!  Now, you can’t afford not to be a GAPA member.

In a few weeks, you’ll receive an invitation to attend the conference – please watch your mailboxes.  In the meantime, my door is always open to you.  Feel free to contact me anytime at [email protected]

John Filson, PA-C
GAPA President 2016 – 2017
