Mercer University – PA Week 2018 Recap

PA Week is in full swing, and Mercer University students have undertaken several unique opportunities to advance awareness for the PA profession, positively impact the local community, and have lots of fun in the process!  Here on our Atlanta campus, creative students have decorated the halls, classroom, professor’s offices, and even study rooms to make for a festive scene.  Members of the program have also set up a table on campus each day for raffle drawings, and this has provided ample opportunity to speak with other future healthcare professionals and members of the community about PA’s benefit to the healthcare field.  We were able to cap off the week with some friendly competition among the class, competing for points in a class field day!

In the local community, Mercer University’s PA Program has partnered with Good Samaritan Health Center of Gwinnett to launch an effort at increasing awareness and education for breast cancer.  In conjunction with breast cancer awareness month, students have been given the opportunity to speak with patients at the health center about recognizing common red flag symptoms for breast cancer, and how they can effectively perform a self-evaluation from their home.  Our program has a well-established relationship with Good Samaritan, and we are incredibly thankful that they are willing to open their doors for educational opportunities for our students.

We have thoroughly enjoyed participating in PA Week with thousands of other PA’s and students across America, as evidenced by a plethora of photos and videos of other programs showcasing themselves across various platforms on social media.  Mercer students have made our presence known as well, and our program was delighted to discover that the Class of 2020’s video was chosen as one of the 4 finalists in the AAPA’s national competition.  Wish us luck!
